SHOPPING

Oahu has 6 major malls: Ala Moana Center, Pearlridge Center, Windward Wall, Waikele Premium Outlets, Ka Makana Alii, and Kahala Mall, as well as several major discount stores such as Costco, Sam’s Club, Wal-Mart, Don Quijote, Target, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Office Depot, and Best Buy.

TIME DIFFERENCE

Hawaii does not observe daylight savings time.  Therefore, in winter you will be two hours behind the West Coast and five hours behind the East Coast.  In the summer, Hawaii is three hours behind the West Coast and six hours behind the East Coast.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

On Oahu, “The Bus”  www.thebus.org  is operated by the city.  Over 250,000 people ride 110 routes each day, giving Oahu the highest per capita ridership in the United States.  This high patronage rate is attributable to convenient service and low price. As of Jan 1, 2020, the fees are: $2.75 per adult (18 and over) or $5.50 for a one-day pass, $1.00 for seniors (age 65 or older) or $2.00/one day pass, and $1.25 one way for youth (6 to 17), or $2.50/day pass.  Commuters can purchase monthly bus passes with unlimited use for $70.00 for adults and $35.00 for Youth (6 to 17) at selected supermarkets, drug stores, 7-11’s, and financial institutions.  Senior citizens (age 65 or older) and handicapped people can get a monthly pass for $10.00  Apply for passes at TheBus Pass Office: Kalihi Transit Center or at Satellite City Halls.  To apply, you will need a birth certificate, passport, or driver’s license for identification.  Please see web site for current fares and details.
